The whole route has been divided into
12 cycling stages
and 2 rest days in
Groningen and Rotterdam.
The stages have an average length of
130 kilometres. It
is especially the day of the legendary
Elfstedentocht that
is a big outlier in terms of distance. 235 kilometres in
total through the vast Frisian countryside. We have
planned the Elfstedentocht as ONE stage in order not to
detract from its heroic character. On that day, however,
there are several shortcuts available, so the distance
can be halved. Other stages can also be shortened in
various places.
As expected, most stages are completely flat, apart from
the last stage when we follow the hilly race route of
the Amstel Gold Race.
At the start in Amsterdam you get a detailed tour guide
with all kind of background information about the tour.
A GPS which has the option to upload files is essential
and very helpful to find
the correct way through the tangle of roads and cycle
paths in the Netherlands. |
