Bike-Dreams : Paris-Dakar

Tour Info

The Tour

Each participant can cycle the stages at his/her own pace. You can choose to cover the distance in a more or less relaxing way with exploring the local villages, photo stops at every chosen moment or a well deserved break on a terrace. Alternatively, you can try to cover the distance as fast you can.
However it's not a race and we don't do timekeeping.

Everyone gets daily a description and map of the stage. Next to that we provide GPS-tracks, so that navigation gets easier.

Support Vehicles

The journey is supported by two vehicles. One vehicle brings the luggage and kitchen equipment to the next place, so you don't have to carry luggage on your bike. The other vehicle gives support on the road and provides a lunch half way the stage.

The cyclists who are not able to ride, or cannot finish the stage, have always the possibility to take a seat in one of the support vehicles. We will take care that everyone arrives at the finish location before the evening.

Food

We provide on cycling days an extensive breakfast ( bread, cereals, fruit ) and halfway the stage a tasty lunch is waiting for you. In addition, we will take care that you can recover with an extra meal ( soup, bread, fruit ) after finishing the stage and that you always have sufficient water and sport drinks.
The cook of Bike-Dreams prepares in campsites a delicious dinner full of carbohydrates and all nutrients your body needs. There is of course a spot at the dinner table for a couple of bottles wine (in Europe) to relax the tired muscles.

We do not serve food at the rest days and if we stay in a hotel we don't serve dinner. This gives you the opportunity to explore and sample the local cuisine.

Accommodation

In terms of accommodation is "Paris-Dakar" a combination of hotels, campsites and temporary camps along the road. The campsites in Europe are better equipped than the ones in Africa, which are sometimes extremely basic. You also stay minimal 17 nights in a hotel, this includes the first night in Paris and the last night in Dakar.
You have the possibility at several campsites to rent a site caravan or hut at own expense. The caravans and huts that you can rent, vary from very basic to nice places with more luxury.

Participants

The number of participants is limited due to organizational reasons. For people from all over the world it is possible to sign up for the tour.

The tour is open for men and women with an age between 18 and 65. Everyone with a good health and passion for cycling can finish the journey in a normal way.

Non-Cyclists

It is an option to join as non-cycling participant, which means that you can take a seat in one of the support vehicles. You make the same journey as the cycling participant, it's only not on the bike.

You can help the other crew with shopping, prepare the lunch halfway or help in the kitchen; but first of all : you must enjoy the journey. You are not required to help, it's all up to yourself. We prefer that all participants ( and especially the non-cyclists ) visit the local towns and villages where we stay, in stead of chopping carrots.

The registration and Entry Fee is similar as for cyclists.
