The whole route has been divided into
21 cycling stages with 4 rest
days. The cycling days have mostly the same
schedule : a start early in the morning and cycle the
distance at own speed to the next place. The stages have
an average length of 105 kilometres, depending on the
profile and the locations of hotels.
We follow the course of the Unite Italy Wild Trail as
best as possible. This means that 25 per cent of
the whole route is unpaved, and the rest paved. The
unpaved sections vary from smooth flat Cadillac gravel
to narrow tracks through bushes and rough rocky down-
and uphills. Be prepared for everything
including some "hike-a-bike"-sections. An adventurous
mindset is required.
|
We provide three tracks :
|
• Adventure |
: |
The original track including all tough
parts with rocky downhills, small tracks through bushes
and river crossings. It's best to bring a mountain bike.
|
• Gravel |
: |
Only the really hard parts are taken
out. Sometimes there are still tough parts, but after or
before you will have a good stretch of gravel. It's best
to bring a gravel bike with wide tires or a mountain
bike.
|
• Paved |
: |
Everything paved (as an escape route
for rainy days).
|
At the start in Santa Maria di Leuca you get an
extensive tour guide with background information about
the route. Daily, we hand out a sheet with some notes of
the stage including the sections of unpaved.
A GPS which has the option to upload
tracks is essential and will be your most important
route finder in Italy where we stick to the minor roads
and where road signs are sometimes hard to find. |
