Description

The epic cols of the Tour de France in the Alps : Col du Galibier, l'Alpe d'Huez, Col de la Madeleine, Col d'Izoard. The names sound like a symphony for cycling enthusiasts who love watching the legendary event in July. In addition, some less famous, but not less challenging, climbs like Col de Cayolle, Col du Petit Saint-Bernard, Col de la Colombière and Cormet de Roselend. Plus the switchbacks of Montvernier and the "new" Tour de France climb, the Col de la Loze. What can we say more...

A lot of famous professionals fought out here heroic duels in the past. Now it's your turn to test your cycling skills and write your own cycling history in this world famous mountainous region with breath-taking beauty.

Out of Nice you turn directly inland to the quiet mountains of the Haute Provence and not much later the Haute Alpes. Magnificent scenery and ideal cols to warm up. After three days you arrive at one of the highest towns in Europe, Briançon. The historic town with impressive fortifications has always been on a strategic location surrounded by beautiful valleys and mountain passes. Your strategy in Briançon might be rest; rest for the upcoming days.

From now on it's serious climbing with almost every day a col of 2.000 meters or more : Col du Galibier, Col de la Madeleine, Col de la Loze, Col du Petit Saint-Bernard and Col du Grand Saint-Bernard. We cross the border with Italy and later Switzerland, before we return back into France at Chamonix, the gateway to the Mont Blanc. The "White Mountain" is the highest peak in the Alps and Western Europe with an elevation of 4.808 meters. You can take on your rest day the cable car up to Aiguille du Midi which offers at 3.842 meters - quite literally - breathtaking panoramic views of the Mont Blanc Massif and surrounding peaks during the ascent. Make sure that you change your thin cycling lycra outfit into a warm winter jacket before you step into one of the highest cable cars in the world.
